ARPAN CRE Steering Committees

Our Steering Committees provide oversight to ensure ARPAN projects are well-integrated and meet community health needs.

The ARPAN Chief Investigator Steering Committee holds overarching responsibility for the CRE, ensuring all activities are well-integrated. The Steering Committee meets at least quarterly and is comprised of all Chief Investigators and the CRE Manager. The Committee Chairperson rotates annually between Chief Investigators Prof Caroline Homer, Prof Shivaprasad Goudar, Prof Pisake Lumbiganon, A/Prof Joshua Vogel, and Prof William Pomat.

Community Advisory Committee

Community and advocacy representatives are key to ensuring ARPAN CRE meets the needs of diverse communities. The Community Advisory Committee coordinates consumer and community engagement within ARPAN CRE to ensure the Centre remains sensitive and responsive to community needs. The Community Advisory Committee is co-chaired by a consumer advocate (TBC) and Chief Investigator Dr Susannah Leisher. The Community Advisory Committee provides advice across all key activities and administers the register of consumer/advocacy groups across the region.

The Research Career Development Committee is chaired by a Chief Investigator. Committee members include Chief and Associate Investigators and representatives from all ARPAN countries. The Committee meets quarterly to oversee the ARPAN mentoring program, drive researcher development and monitor, promote and support publication and funding opportunities.

Midwifery Research Advisory Group

The Burnet Midwifery Research Advisory Group was established in 2024 to provide knowledge leadership, strategic insights and advice on midwifery research undertaken by Burnet Institute, with a focus on research in the Asia Pacific region.

The 11 members include expert midwife educators, researchers and policy makers from Bhutan, Samoa, India, Indonesia, Fiji, Pakistan, Solomon Islands, PNG, Nepal and Kiribati. We also have representatives from WHO, UNFPA and the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM).

In 2025, the Advisory Group will play a critical role in the co-design of the Midwives in Research Network (MIRN). This Research Network will be a practical and interactive initiative that supports connections, research knowledge, and learning opportunities for midwives in the Asia-Pacific region.

Objectives & Vision

Our vision is to drive improvements in reproductive, maternal and newborn healthcare services across the Asia-Pacific Region through building and sustaining research, knowledge translation and capacity strengthening.
