Climate change poses a significant threat to human health. Extreme weather events such as heatwaves, storms, floods, and droughts are expected to continue to increase in frequency and intensity. These events cause direct injuries, exacerbate chronic conditions and disrupt access to health services. Longer term climatic impacts such food and water insecurity and population displacement may compound these challenges. Research into the impacts of climate change on maternal and child health, as well as potential interventions to minimize harms has rapidly expanded over the last 20 years. This project aims to identify the major threats to maternal and child health associated with climate change, summarize the latest literature, and identify key gaps where further research is required. This project will assist ARPAN staff to identify research priorities and potential partner organizations and to avoid duplication of research efforts.
