The Safer Baby Bundle for Australian maternity healthcare professionals is a collection of change ideas or interventions for Australian maternity healthcare professionals designed to reduce late pregnancy stillbirth. The Safer Baby Bundle comprises five evidence-based elements: smoking cessation, fetal movements, fetal growth restriction, side sleeping and timing of birth. The bundle is showing promising results with a 30% reduction in stillbirth in participating maternity services in Victoria in 2020.
While there is a need for effective stillbirth prevention programs across low- and middle-income countries in the Asia-Pacific region, it is not clear whether the Australian Bundle is appropriate or applicable in these settings. This proposed project aims to produce a bespoke stillbirth prevention bundle that is co-designed with key stakeholders for low- and-middle income countries in the Asia-Pacific that can be implemented across the region. The project will be conducted across Papua New Guinea, Thailand, India and one other Pacific Island country.
