The Role of Health Providers and Facilities in Women's Experiences of Childbirth in Asia Pacific Countries: Strengthening Evidence by Exploiting Large Datasets.

In 2020, around 287,000 women died from pregnancy and childbirth, with 95% in low- and middle-income countries and 16% in the Asia Pacific. This study uses data from 75 hospitals in 10 countries by the Global Maternal and Newborn Health Platform to explore how women’s experiences of mistreatment during childbirth, along with the quality of maternity care and facility support, shape their decisions to seek care at health facilities in future pregnancies. It highlights the importance of respectful and high-quality intrapartum care guided by WHO standards, focusing on dignity, communication, safety, and building women’s trust in health services.
