The family planning practices of postpartum women, the effects of these practices on women's interpregnancy intervals, and the effects of varying interpregnancy intervals on the nutritional status of women in Fiji's reproductive age group (15–49 years).
This study uses a mixed-methods approach to examine postpartum family planning (PPFP) practices and their impact on interpregnancy intervals (IPI) among women in Fiji’s Western Division, and how IPI influences nutritional status. Objectives include assessing PPFP prevalence, understanding knowledge, access, and uptake, and exploring IPI’s impact on BMI and haemoglobin levels. Quantitative components include a cross-sectional study of multigravida women and a prospective cohort of primigravida women. Qualitative components involve in-depth interviews and focus group discussions to explore barriers and enablers to PPFP, healthy birth spacing, and maternal nutrition. This approach provides comprehensive insight into reproductive health and nutrition outcomes.
